Learn to DJ
DJing brings together music, technology, creativity and performance - and it doesn’t require any previous experience.
Novice to Nightclub gives young DJs a clear journey from first mix to creating and performing sets live in a nightclub.
Courses are practical and time is spend learning on the decks, developing both technical skills and a musical ear to confidently make mixing decisions.
Courses range from a short introductory workshop, to a full day developing a wider range of skills, to taking part in the full Novice to Nightclub experience and performing live in a London nightclub in front of family and friends.
All DJ equipment is provided during the workshops and performances.
What We Offer
Two-Hour DJ Workshop
A fast-paced introduction designed to get young DJs mixing as quickly as possible.
Begin by learning how the two decks work before developing the fundamental skills of cueing and beatmatching.
Discover how DJs listen for musical phrases and choose the right moment to begin a transition, before learning to mix tracks using channel faders, EQ and filters.
Alongside the technical skills, participants begin to understand the music itself: recognising beats, bars, phrases and changes in energy within a track.
Everything is learnt through practical challenges, with plenty of time on the equipment and a strong emphasis on learning by doing.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have created their own transitions and gained a clear understanding of the fundamental skills behind DJ performance.
Full-Day DJ Experience
A full day gives young DJs the chance to take their skills much further.
Learn beat-matching and mixing before exploring track structure, musical phrasing, EQ, filters, hot cues, looping and effects.
Learn how loops can be shortened to build excitement, how hot cues can move instantly between sections of a track and how DJs control energy across a performance.
The course also encourages careful listening and musical decision-making. Learn not just how the controls work, but why a particular transition succeeds and how tracks can be combined effectively.
As confidence grows, begin linking several tracks together and creating short DJ performances.
By the end of the day, participants will have experienced a broad range of real DJ techniques and developed the foundations needed to begin building their own sets.
Novice to Nightclub
The ultimate challenge: learn to DJ and then perform live in a London nightclub.
Participants begin as novices and progressively develop the skills required for a real performance.
Learn beat-matching, phrasing, EQ, filters, hot cues, loops, effects and set-building before preparing a carefully structured four-track section of a larger back-to-back DJ set.
The course culminates in a nightclub performance, with family and friends invited to form the audience.
Each participant takes their turn behind the decks, performing the transitions they have prepared while contributing to one continuous set created by the whole group.
This experience gives young DJs something spectacular to work towards, and turns the learning process into an actual performance journey.
From the first beat-match to the final track at the nightclub, participants aren’t simply learning, they are becoming DJs.
